The Ministry of Works and Transport (MoWT) has launched Mobile Money payments for toll fees on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway (KEE), giving motorists an additional and more convenient way to pay.
The service is available in designated Toll Lanes 4 and 5 at the Busega, Kajjansi and Mpala Toll Plazas. Motorists can pay using their mobile money accounts through a simple process at the toll gates.
The launch comes as traffic on the Expressway continues to increase. Eng. Dr. Timothy Tibesigwa, Acting Engineer-in-Chief at the Ministry of Works and Transport, said vehicle numbers had risen from about 21,000 per day in 2022 to approximately 29,000 per day in 2026, creating a greater need for efficient toll payment options.

Officiating at the launch on 25 September 2026 at Kajjansi Toll Plaza, Eng. Dr. Tibesigwa said the initiative forms part of the Ministry’s efforts to improve the efficiency and convenience of tolling services for road users.
The Ministry is also preparing to introduce an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system across all toll lanes in the Financial Year 2027/28. The system will include automated number plate recognition, prepayments and self-service payment options.
MTN MoMo supported the launch, with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to using technology to improve services for road users.
The launch was attended by Jemima Kariuki, representing the MTN CEO; Eng. Isaac Menya, KEE Contract Manager, representing the Commissioner for National Roads at MoWT; Brian Lukwiya, representing the Accountant General of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Eng. Joan Alinda, KEE Project Manager at MoWT; Ivan Katamba, KEE Operator Representative; and representatives from MTN MoMo, MoWT, KEE management team and other stakeholders.
Motorists are encouraged to use the new payment option while continuing to observe speed limits, traffic signs, lane markings and other road safety measures.
