Public Structures

The Department is headed by the Commissioner Public Structures

The Department of Public Structures commits to;

i) Initiate, formulate, review, enforce and monitor the building construction Laws, Policies, Standards and Regulations on building matters;

ii) Monitor and support the activities of the Architects Registration Board, Uganda Surveyors Registration Board to ensure professionalism and compliance with codes of practice;

iii) Conduct research on building materials/equipment and other structural related elements to gain valuable information about industry trends;

iv) Supervise and manage consultancy services and Building Works Contracts;

v) Maintain and update the database of all government buildings throughout the country and abroad;

vi) Assess building works for compliance with building standards and ensuring efficiency and safety of the public;

vii) Plan, monitor and evaluate building construction projects;

viii) Resolve building construction related disputes or queries nationwide;

ix) Carry out engineering and value for money audits as and when required by the Government;

x) Organise venues for National/ State functions;

xi) Participate in the investigation of fire incidents in public buildings; and

xii) Design and supervise minor works.
