Construction Industry Development and Regulation

The Department is headed by the Commissioner, Construction Industry Development and Regulation

The Department of Construction Industry Development and Regulation commits to;

i) Initiate, develop and review relevant Policies, Laws, Engineering Standards, Manuals, Guidelines for use in the construction industry;

ii) Undertake road pavement survey conditions to establish relevant parameters required for proper road network planning and designing of appropriate interventions;

iii) Provide technical assistance and advise on implementation of policies related to the construction industry;

iv) Co-ordinate and promote the development of the construction industry;

v) Undertake research, innovation and development of alternative construction materials, technologies and practices;

vi) Promote and oversee training and skilling of practitioners in the construction industry;

vii) Regulate the construction industry in accordance with national policies, laws, regulations and best practices;

viii) Develop, review, update and disseminate construction industry, engineering and quality standards;

ix) Establish, manage and supervise the operations of the Ministry’s materials testing laboratories;

x) Monitor and regulate the operations of private owned construction materials testing and geotechnical engineering laboratories;

xi) Develop, update and publish updated registers of contractors, consultants, suppliers, manufacturers and projects in the construction industry;

xii) Promote, regulate and monitor the availability of construction plant and equipment in the country;

xiii) Co-ordinate, monitor and support the activities of other regulatory, professional and business-related bodies in the construction industry; and

xiv) Maintain and develop collaborative linkages with international organizations, national organizations, agencies, agencies of others states and the private sector on matters related to the construction industry.
