The Ministry of Works and Transport has hosted H.E. Ambassador Lee Sangho of the Republic of Korea for a courtesy meeting with the Ministry leadership, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring opportunities for enhanced collaboration in Uganda’s works and transport sector.
The meeting was hosted by Hon. Minister of Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, alongside the state minister for Works and Transport (Transport), Hon. Julius Maganda Wandera, and the state minister for Works and Transport (Works), Hon. Siraj Ali.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Ministry leadership and the Korean delegation to discuss areas of mutual interest, with a particular focus on infrastructure development, transport and opportunities to deepen cooperation between Uganda and the Republic of Korea.
Among the key issues discussed was funding support from the Korean Exim Bank, which has been an important area of cooperation between the two countries in supporting infrastructure development. The discussions explored opportunities for continued collaboration in mobilising financial resources to support strategic infrastructure projects aligned with Uganda’s development priorities.
The Ministry leadership highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships with development partners in complementing Government efforts to develop, rehabilitate and maintain critical infrastructure across the country. Such partnerships provide opportunities to mobilize financing, technical expertise and knowledge that can contribute to improving Uganda’s transport infrastructure and connectivity.
The meeting also provided a platform for the two sides to exchange views on areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for further cooperation in the works and transport sector. The engagement emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and coordination between Uganda and Korea in advancing shared infrastructure and development objectives.
Uganda and the Republic of Korea have maintained longstanding bilateral relations, with cooperation extending to several areas of national development. In the works and transport sector, the partnership provides opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure development, financing, technical cooperation and knowledge exchange.
The Ministry of Works and Transport continues to engage development partners and other stakeholders to support the implementation of Uganda’s infrastructure priorities. These efforts are aimed at improving connectivity, facilitating the movement of people and goods, supporting economic activity and contributing to the country’s broader development agenda.
The meeting with H.E. Ambassador Lee Sangho underscores the continued partnership between Uganda and the Republic of Korea and the shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in infrastructure development. The Ministry looks forward to continued engagement with the Korean Government and its institutions in identifying areas of collaboration that can support Uganda’s works and transport priorities and national development objectives.
